Travelling Light

Well, it's my first proper outing with the new laptop. When I decided to change over from the more traditional gaming tower to a laptop the plan was for better portability, so as a suitable test I brought it along to Throne of Skulls (hereafter referred to as ToS...it's Games Workshops big event they run at their headquarters).

As it's a wargaming event I need to bring my army along, which is a fairly chunky (but light...its small bits of plastic and foam mainly) bag, then in my rucksac I brought up my full gaming rig, a couple of changes of clothes and a washkit...pretty much what you'd need for a 'Con. I also threw in a camcorder for good measure. On the way up on the train I watched Inception (which I found most agreeable), probably annoying the hell out of everyone else on the table, but who cares? Now I'm in the hotel room, using the mobile phone as a modem, and comfortable in the knowledge that any video I take can be edited down that night. I also have access to my entire games library, which is always handy if I'm at a loose end in the evenings.

I was a bit concered about how easy it would be to lug about, as for a laptop it's fairly big. I have managed to blag a good laptop bag though which fits it perfectly, as well as a decent amount of other stuff too... I'm now really looking forward to Fishcon with it...not only will I have a machine that won't let me down by being slow to load, play etc, but I won't have to go through the hassle of lugging kit about and setting up!

This post reads like the future. Will you still like another monitor for FishCon?

Nope... I've even been using the laptops keyboard. Using the trackpad was a step too far though, I have a small Bluetooth mouse for general use, and my Razer for gaming...

Do you find the flat keyboard a bit achey after prolongued use? I find that my girly wrists can ache if I do too much on a laptop flatty.

I do have a laptop stand that sticks it all at an angle...just a cheapy thing from IKEA, but it does the business. It's been good for prolonged SC2 sessions...
