So in my series of concerts the next was Kihncert 2010 put on by the local classic rock station KFOX with one of their Djs and musician Greg Kihn as the front man.
It was down at shoreline a huge amphitheatre near mountain view. My seat was pretty good a little close to the stage for comfort due to the sound pressure level but not actually painful.
Greg Kihn started off with his band his son was playing lead. They were pretty good I’m not familiar with their work but it sounded good to me. He did joke at one point that the were going to do a medley of their hit, so I guess even here they are not a headline act. Still it was a good kickoff to the evening.
Next came Blue Oyster Cult a band I’m more familiar with they played a few tracks I knew “Burning for you” “Godzilla” and of course “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and were very good (although I could have used a little more cowbell ) the lead guitarist did some wonderful riffs between tracks and they also did a little bit about their base payer who have been in all sorts of bands like Dio and whitesnake and half a dozen others each time they mentioned one they did a little bit of that band’s stuff which was fun.
After BOC they had the headline act Lynyrd Skynrd who were pretty good again I only know about 2 of their tracks but even so it was great music and a fun stage act. They ended on “Sweet home Alabama” and used “Freebird” as their encore.
All of the acts were really loud but I guess they had to be to reach all the way back of that huge amphitheater even so I think if I’d have been any closer it would have been painful. As it was most of the time you didn’t so much hear the base as feel it liquidize your internal organs.
It was a really great evening and I enjoyed myself a lot now I just need new ears.
