Went for another bike ride yesterday got just slightly past the place I stopped last time and discovered the way ahead blocked by flooding. Probably shallow enough I could have rode through but could feel my legs running out of juice and the sun was setting so I called it a day.
Next time I’ll see if I can get past that, the otherside of the little valley I’m riding in looked less wet and there looked like their might have been a road way route.
Was fairly happy with the new seat cover I had picked up, the saddle was a bit hard and this just eases things off a touch with some of that squishy gel material they use in mouse wrist rests.
Found a free app for my phone that logs GPS position and speed and plots it on google maps it can also hook up to a heart monitor but I don’t have one of those. Briefly considered writing my own but probably not worth it unless there is something I want that the free apps don’t do and some of them look pretty extensive tracking acceleration height and speed as well as just lat long. Did spend a few minutes just trying out a basic map app in the android SDK the emulator lacks GPS so can’t really play with that.

What's the free app for your phone? There might be an android one.
Well there certainly is an android one as my phone is an android phone :D
I actually found two in the end one called Biotrak which was alright and I tried tracking myself walking to lunch yesterday that ties into some heart rate widget I don't have but the tracking worked ok. Then I found another one called "GPS Tracker Lite" which seems to offer better tracking facilities more data and it also saved it in a standard format you could then look at.
Both were free off the Market.
@EMW - I downloaded and have been using Endomondo - it's really good. There is a website that shows stats and everything. Make sure you switch on GPS, though (I forgot) because otherwise, you don't get a snacky readout.
For example, with GPS:

without GPS (doh!):

I can heartily recommend it. All I 'need' now is a way of mounting it on my bike!
I never found a decent phone mount for a bicycle. There are several out there that are variations on car mounts, however it only take a single sharp bump to pop the phone out.
Gaffa Tape!!!!!
The little backpack I've been taking with me to carry all the misc stuff I do need (water, bike lock) and stuff I might need (lights, puncture repair kit, pump). Has a little mobile phone webbing pocket on the strap that I shove mine in a lot of them have a similar feature.
Sadly, they are AMAZINGLY expensive to import. So I'll wait until there is a UK seller.
