So today was my last full day in the UK it was also conveniently close to my mum’s birthday so I spent it packing and also enjoying a nice pub lunch to celebrate.
It’s an odd feeling now that I’m going I’m worried that there is some vital thing I’ve forgotten to do or some vital thing I’ve not packed. I’ve covered the basics of the important docs so with luck anything else can be replaced or sent on later.
I’ve been starting to arrange for what happens next and spoke to the rental consultant my work employed to sort me out a place stateside. He is going to take me round places in my price range on thursday which gives me wednesday to try and get the social security and bank account business rolling. Somewhat of a wild card is the fact that my boss is flying out in only a few weeks and mentioned he might want to drag me down to see a customer in southern California so it may end up putting a spanner in any seamless move plans I might have.
Still with no property and an ability to move it straight away I guess there is a good chance I can make some sort of quick deal on somewhere that’s ready to go. We shall see how things progress.
Anyway it’s a reasonably early start tomorrow to get down to Heathrow in time for the flight out then the customary wait for hours. Managed to get myself the front row aisle seat which gives me good leg room at the risk of baby (as that’s where the cot stands are) but I’ve been through that before and for all that people get worked up about it I can’t say that it’s made a big difference. I’m usually drugged out of my mind on anti air sickness pills anyway.
Well the big adventure starts tomorrow, it’s going to be interesting one way or another.
