A GTA moment is when you have enough stars that the police are throwing themselves at you and you use real-world common sense to solve the problem and make a get away.
A drug bust goes bad, cops are abseiling out of helicopters. I run from the building, taking some fire and jump into the nearest vehicle, a Bobcat pickup. I race away from the scene, I can hear the copters overhead. A bridge separates me from freedom but there are cops everywhere, they hem me in up against the side of the bridge.
I climb out. Screw you! And jump off the bridge. Now I'm swimming, rounds zipping through the water around me. I climb up out of the river by the underpass, as you might expect, there are tramps scattering from burning oil drums as the shots ring out. I find a car park, there's a cop on foot there but as he's shooting, he gets gunned down by a gangster. Totally at random!
I steal the first car that comes to hand, a piece of shit like a Focus. It's got good handling but no speed. The cops are everywhere, trying head ons. I swerve off the broad streets of downtown and head into the alleys. At the end of one alley is a cop standing by his car. Rounds pop into the front of the car, I can see them on the bonnet. I floor it and run the pig down, squashing him against his own patrol car. My piece of shit car has gone to the dogs, steam billowing from the fender so I climb out and into the squad car.
Finding myself in a financial district, the cops are distant but closing fast. I jump out of the squad car and change up to a Merc-a-like. This has plenty of poke but those off-roader cops Hummers are still heading right at me. I take to the pavement, protected by trees and bus shelters that don't stop the cops but act as cover.
Driving carefully now, I head down a side alley out of their radar. I pull to a halt, the stars blink out. I'm in the clear. Pulse racing.
Yes. This is why I love GTA.
