It should be added that the cost of petrol may well rise further today with the budget.

I barely use my car now given the cost of running it, tai chi and the odd big supermarket run. Other than that it's just not worth it...

Good post there, mate. Didn't realise it's that bad now. I only drive on little local missions and to the VGS/parents, so it's not a commute issue. It would influence my decision to drive commute to work.

Reading is 45miles from London/Mill Hill. In my car I average 45mpg doing the trip on a tuesday, yes I could drive slower but its not going to happen. Thats 2 Gallons of fuel to Reading and back on a tuesday nite or 7.57l. Diesel is currently about 113p per liter. Thats about £8.55 for a trip to Reading and back.

From the budget, a proposed £950 top band car-tax for real wastrel cars :-D
I put about £12-14 a week in Matilda, and that covers to/from work, the gym, and anything else I'm upto...

You say wastrel's I say fun. My problem is this goverment has managed one way or the other to considerably raise the cost of living in the UK. Not by raising just one tax but by increasing a whole load of them. Petrol is just half the problem my last Gas bill was silly.

If you're doing it for fun then cost should not be an issue...

Oooooh, scarey. £1000 per year for a car that probably costs £50k. Well, fuck me, they will be quaking in their boots. Tax the shit out of them.

The trouble is we already do tax the shit out of them, we pay tax on the tax on petrol and these cars use far more petrol then usually hence they already are tax to shit.
We do in this country to have a real resetment for someone that doing better then us, this I hate.
