OH MY GOD! Brilliant. It just shows how more on the ball Rock Band is.

I find it bizarre that people consider them to be either/or. Is there some law that says you can't have both? That you can't, fairly cheaply, pick up the game only version of GH3 if you already have a guitar, as well as splurging on some new peripherals to go with rock band?
It seems that every time two things are released in the same area, even if they have different strengths and goals (which they almost certainly do in this case... rock band is designed around tracks that are good to play as a group. GH is designed around tracks that are very guitar centric) they have to become the focus of fanboyism...
I doubt either of these will "win" in any meaningful sense... the player base for each is big enough that there will be DLC and probably sequels for some time. So why do we all have to stand behind one shouting its praises?

Because that is the way of the internet ;)
If I already had GH for one of my active consoles then I might well get both since I don't and both are very similar pricey I can't see the point of having both one or the other seems more sensible.

Yes, its the way of the internet, but why are we doing it?
Especially given both the people promoting rock band above already own multiple versions of GH :P
So the real reason you're not going for 3 is that your TV doesn't have enough inputs? :P

Pretty much, I just don't have the room for the ps2 what with all the others. And as a platform it's dead most of the old stuff will run under emulation so there is no real need for it.
GH is just a pain since it uses custom hardware. You can get adaptors that work but even then only to a degree and if I'm buying another bit of custom hardware to make it work I'd be better off just paying for the new version that will work out the box and will still work for "guitar hero 4: slash's revenge!" when it comes out on Wii,360,ps3 but likely not anything else. Plus the ps2 version lacks any of the DLC stuff which is nice to have.

Yep, true, the PS2 version isn't great exactly. In GH3 on the PS2 the background judders badly. Clearly a case of a cheap port (mmm..port). Also, its the first GH game to include confirmations. It took me a while to work out why I was extra irritated after restarting or quitting a song... I was being asked if I was sure. Yes I'm fucking sure, that's why I selected the damn option.
I still think that the GH line is mainly solo with some multiplayer, and RB is mainly multiplayer with some solo. Direct comparisons seem flawed
If you go with the 360 version of RB, the GH3 controller is apparently compatible.

yeah the GH3 controller is RB compatible (I don't think the reverse is true) on the 360 that doesn't really help since you cant get RB without it's controllers at least not yet (Well I guess her that should read at all, I mean there isn't even an official release date yet).

Hm. Didn't realise that. So the only option is the fucking expensive option....
