I find old maps of places fascinating, and Harrogate especially is particuarly cool, as by most standards the place is quite new, and has grown rapidly
This very cool site allows you to look at moern maps and old maps (mainly from the 1800's to early 1900's) side-by-side.
Even as late as the 1960's, I can see that Harrogate did not really extend north of Oak Beck (the stream in our back garden), and the pre-NHS hospital is still showing near Valley Gardens (aka Boggs Field, where most the the rather famous springs were found.
The not-so-secret Spy Base is non-existent.
Some, but not all of the reservoirs on the River Washburn have been built...notably Thurcross is missing. This series of reservoirs along the valley provide much of the drinking water for Leeds, as well as prime dog-walking territory.

Well, I bloody love this and have spent far too long over lunch pouring over it.
