I gave it a go, it gave no clues what to do so I set off, found my ship, figured out eventually how to set sail, found an island, killed some skeletons, got nothing for my trouble, set sail again, played some music, just about saved my ship after hitting the edge of the map, got very drunk, stumbled around the ship a bit playing some music (badly) ... then quit to desktop and wrote this.
I am highly unlikely to ever pick it up again without a very good reason ... uninstall incoming.

The Microsoft store want £50 for the pre-order ... they must be mad. I really want this game to work, but it does seem (as EMW says) to be lacking a game; at best it is currently an over priced pirate themed griefing sandbox.

Has one looked at Blackwake on steam. Seems to have good reviews as far as squad based play. Currently 40% off. Sorry no link, off out.
I hear they just added an amazing new feature to sea of theives ... pig trafficking where you capture a pig put it in a cage then sell it
wow so piraty

Blackwake was a chuckle! You can even hold a tea party...

Blackwake has largely reached its limit for me (for the moment). It just isn't fun enough. If you're on a galleon, then it can be good fun depending on the Captain but it feels like a lot of hard work. I was thinking about why this was this morning and it's because it's very difficult to know if you're doing any good. Pumping, fixing holes, fixing sales, replenishing stock are all well and good but it seems that we spent a fair proportion of the time doing it. Firing cannons is fun but you don't really get a sense that you did a good shot. Your name flickers up at the bottom but I couldn't connect what I thought was a good shot with doing a lot of damage to the enemy.
There's also the problem with bad teamwork, where someone takes the cannon you just loaded or someone is emptying out the supplies on your side because their side has depleted and rather restock, they're just taking yours. That wouldn't be a problem if you could work together as a whole ship but there's only 3/4 of us and it just doesn't quite work.
