sounds like this works cross platform not only oculus and vive (which makes sense) but also psvr
Definitely going to pick this one up

had a go on the single player which is ok the ai is dumb as a bag of rocks and anything complicated you have to do it yourself so it kinda breaks the immersion. You seem unable to issue more complex move commands than go directly to this object right through that minefield.
It also seems to be server based even for single player I had a bunch of connection issues and eventually it just bombed out and the mission I was playing was gone and reset.
The multiplayer is where it's at though so will have to wait and see how that is once other people I know have it.

I've watched a couple of streams of this (Eurogamer did a couple of missions). Things that struck me;
1) The Artemis team must be a bit gutted. They were years ahead of this, and the gameplay mechanics are virtually identical.
2) It seems to suffer some of the same issues as Artemis with some redundant job roles (ie anyone who is not Captain, Driving, Weapons or Engineering). Both have ways round it (Artemis by selecting multiple roles and hot-swapping, and Bridge Crew has a side-panel for some of the less interesting roles).
3) I would be amazed if they do not introduce a non-VR mode, as the cost of engagement is massive (4 VR kits, all with the hand controls), even putting aside the "throwing up" side of things. Does every player need a copy of the game?
4) I'd be interested to see how it copes with non co-located players...I've not seen that demo'ed anywhere (they have all been in the same room). Artemis specifically said that any lag was an issue for them.
5) If you're gonna be co-located...I would say that the Projector/workstations setup (ala Fishcon) would be more enjoyable. And cheaper.

no need to shout :D
yeah it is basically artemis with a slightly nicer coat of paint and wizz bang vr technology and a mediocre single player mode. It feels like the captain role has less special function about the only thing the captain can do is answer the comm or set red alert but the second one is not really required for anything. Nearly all of the functions he has are duplicated by the helmsman. The roles are all fairly simple and the level of control is not very high I suspect in single player it would get very boring quickly.
Since it seems to be online only I suspect non colocation will still work ok while all the demos I've seen have been all in one room the server isn't in that room plus the level of interaction is small positions of hands and heads of players some voice chat not a lot of data to transmit.
The projector method is probably easier and more interesting I know we all had a blast on it at that fishcon.
I think every player has to own a copy but I think it's interesting that all new htc Vive kits now come with this for free.

IIRC the main role for the Captain in Artemis is situational awareness and making the decision. When you're at a station concentrating on your job then you don't have the capacity to understand all the nuances.
I think that level of leadership will come out when playing with players.

Played this last night with a friend where one of us would be captain the other usually helm or tactical.
The new voice commands are a bit hit and miss sometimes it works flawlessly the rest of the time you are just shouting at it and then give up and use the manual order button. The AI is still dumber than a box of rocks and any subtle maneuvering like avoid those mines but get us in range of that ship is completely beyond it. Straight at a thing or straight away from the thing are the only two options. All the other roles are so simplistic that AI can handle them fine.
Using the classic enterprise is a bit rubbish lots of buttons normally unlabeled (there is an overlay mode which you can call up to show what the hell all the many buttons do) it makes the game more difficult and frustrating than using the tng style ship.
The missions are a bit bland lacking in variety same sort of problem as Artemis fine for a few runs but gets repetitive very quickly.
The major issue with it at the moment is the network code seems to have been written by idiots. It constantly disconnects and then in the story missions that means completely restarting (the non story missions if you lose connection and the other player is still in they can then call you back into the game) we couldn't finish the first of the story missions as it would continually disconnect in the middle.
Looking online it's a common problem which they really need to resolve.
