I have family visiting Sunday, but I should be free in time to join in.

sounds good I think I've played it single player a few times sort of cross between roguelike and tower defense

Really enjoyed it...definitely not the game I was expecting, much more cerebral, and less manic-clicking.
I suspect that at levels above "pitifully easy" the resource management kicks in a lot more, rather than turning every level into a food-farm

Also, Rob's screen-shot is actually animated, and my character is running across it in real-time.

Really enjoyed it, the evening flew by! I liked that we could get to a consensus and that we found a tactic that might not be repeatable on later levels.
Submitted by brainwipe on Mon, 2015-04-20 12:56
Yeah it was a lot of fun. Last time I played it solo I had no idea how it worked or what was going on as it had nothing in the way of tutorials so I just died a lot. Now that I have some understanding of the mechanism and how tactical it is things make a lot more sense.
It was a lot of fun although I suspect some of our tactics only worked because we were playing on insultingly easy mode. Being able to leave half your team just acting as a resource booster for most of the level is probably not a long term strategy.

I very much enjoyed the evening. I think it is fair to say that 100% food production was perhaps not the best route ... but gave added enjoyment for ludicrousness value.

Bit of forward planning...anyone up for this again this weekend?
I did a bit of single-player (still on ludicrously easy), and slowly working towards unlocking other characters (I have unlocked Mizi, and Elise is getting there)
We could pick up where we left off (the save game is on my account), or start again on (dare I say it)...Easy Mode?

I'm in! I would like to start again on Easy Mode. I liked the rompi-ness of last week but I'd prefer more of a challenge. We were nailing it on super-easy, only comedy team-cockups lead to death.

Sounds good to me...also gives people a chance to find/use some new characters (find them on single-player, and get through 3 dungeon levels with them)
Submitted by babychaos on Tue, 2015-05-05 10:43
easy I don't know sounds too confident :P I'll be up for a game :)

I am sure I can make some time :)

Up for tonight! Only managed to unlock one extra character, the others wouldn't make it through three levels! Enjoyed it, tho. :-)
When I'm good to go, I'll join the chat room. :)

I've got 4 unlocked (another 2 new characters bodies lie partially digested on a random floor of the dungeon...that game can be really unforgiving!)
I have; Elise - tank, can also learn Operate, so useful for shoring up junctions. Chef Nanor - seems to be a reasonably survivable buff-type character...not used him much Mizi - damage dealer, but not good at taking down swarms (as I discovered to her ultimate cost) as her attack rate is quite slow. Gets loads of buff's for being solo Opbot - my newest character...amazing Operator (massive Wit score), but sucks in a fight by himself.
As I (probably) have most unlocked, I shall fill in the gaps in the "soon to be destroyed" team we prepare!
He's one of the ones I have lying in a pool of his own blood and intestines somewhere...looks to be a high damage dealer! Good door-opener?
Submitted by babychaos on Sun, 2015-05-10 19:15
So we are agreed that "Easy" is simply too hard for us! It felt very resource-constrained, which is probably why we got swarmed on level 3. Maybe we needed more direct damage dealers?
Submitted by babychaos on Mon, 2015-05-11 07:51
I think we're still pretty new and finding new tactics coupled with its unforgiving Rogue-Like-ness. That's why we're poor! I'm keen to finish the game on Too Easy and then go back to Easy.
What was quite interesting was that I found it good fun even when my character was just sitting on a resource module. You still get the thrill of doors opening, stuff to spend and discussion with the next steps. That's interesting, really.
ACHTUNG!

I think my most stressful time was holding a node with 2 dark rooms just beyond it...I quietly burnt a lot of Science refreshing my abilities after each Wave.
I think unlocking characters, and working out good combinations is key in the Easy mode...a lot of the characters get bonuses to various resources which are going to be more important on Easy.
Submitted by babychaos on Mon, 2015-05-11 09:54
This reminds me remarkably of Easy Mode

Are we in for this again this weekend? We could (dare I say it) continue and see if we can reach the end? Get a new type of spaceship!

Short answer ... lag.
But I doubt there is anyway to get the game back :(

...and compounded by the crystal-carrier also being the server in this case :-(
A real shame for the game to end that way, after a lot of hard work getting so very near the end.
Submitted by babychaos on Mon, 2015-05-18 07:38
Yeah, agree with the above completely crestfallen over that. So annoying. Rage uninstall imminent.
Submitted by brainwipe on Mon, 2015-05-18 10:31
It was heartbreaking to get so far so close to completion and then have the game fold especially since it was two weeks worth of play time at that point
Submitted by Evilmatt on Mon, 2015-05-18 17:30
I think the most annoying thing for me is that it was a game that was working well, hard enough that everyone had a vital part to play, not too manic, with some planning required (and there is always the risk of someone turning the lights off as you dash for the exit!)
I've had a quick scan of the Steam Store, and while there are a few dungeon-esque crawlers, many are single-player only (possibly due to the technical challenges of multi-player?) If it wasn't so stupidly expensive, I'd suggest we give Diablo 3 a pop...
Submitted by babychaos on Mon, 2015-05-18 19:06
I've got diablo 3 I've had fun playing it multiplayer with friends the story is back of a napkin nonsense but it has some fun classes to play.
