This is kinda crazy it's currently in a really early state no where near as finished as say elite which is a close equivalent but somehow they've gotten/swindled 77 million dollars out of people for this thing. Thats triple A game production money.
I remember seeing Chris Roberts at last pax prime bigging up intel processors saying they made it possible to do incredible things which sounds like it was a lie
I guess they can keep selling their virtual^2 goods to make more and more money without ever having to produce things

I loved previous Chris Robert's games, so this got my attention when it appeared on KickStarter, but the moment I saw the real money cost of ships and the possibility to actually lose ships in the game it put me right off (although kickstarters can't lose their ships, people buying them now can) and I decided just to back Elite. It might seem strange, but when it was a couple of hundred pounds for a basic ship that even if the game is made you never know how much you are going to play; especially as the basic ship is never what you really want in the long run. I still feel bad coughing up £10 for a chrome viper skin in Elite which I have yet to ever use.
WOW, I didn't realise how far this had all gone. I've been keeping a lazy eye on it; I didn't have Wing Commander, I was too busy with Elite:Frontier. I don't mind coughing up for virtual items; I enjoy the game, I want it to be improved over time, I buy stuff, Devs get money. I threw money at Planetside for that reason and I bought a skin in Elite:D too. But 77 million... crumbs!
That sounds a bit like a frenzy.
I loved the wing commander series too and it looks like the concept of Star Citizen is right up my alley but at the moment it's giving off a very Molyneux vibe promising a lot delivering not much taking a load of cash for dubious gains
paying for a game you like to support devs is one thing in this case since there is no game it feels a lot like gouging and the prices are somewhat outrageous hundreds of dollars for each thing and as big rob says you could just lose it in a fight or cliping a space station or some such
It just smacks of greed
