I wouldn't blame him but then, he doesn't think much of the big corporates. I can understand him wanting not to have the pressure of keeping it going.

He's earned it but then he's already not exactly strapped for cash what was it 100 million in sales. Flogging it to microsoft seems inconsistent with some of the things he's done and said in the past but then everyones got a price and 2 billion dollars is a lot of spare change.

Its an interesting problem if they have offered him 2B, whilst he has become rich from minecraft I can't see how he could say no. Even with sales at 100m a year it would take him quite a while to get to 2B.

Fair play to the fellows. Still love the game and Microsoft have a recent history of supporting an ecosystem in other areas of its business. Let's hope they can do the same here.
I think it boils down to "this isn't what I want from life". Can't blame him, not everyone wants to have a rock-star existence, and $2.5 billion is a very good pay-off.

Can't blame him either. In fact, I applaud. Well done, chap. That there's a brave bit of honesty.

You can't fault him for it at all, and no-one can claim they wouldn't do the same.

He has been basically backing away from minecraft for a while and not been involved with the desisicons since jens took over there was an element of since mojang was independant and notch was theoretically in charge that minecraft would remain unmolested by third parties like publishers. This is a game that basically did everything wrong it would never have gotten made in a conventional publisher so there is that worry that microsoft will now fuck it up.
But I can understand Notch wanting out and I can't really blame him a cut of 2.5b plus what ever millions he's already got stashed under a mattress in Sweden is going to mean he never need work again and can afford his own island somewhere. He seems a quite private quiet person and all the attention this has caused probably didn't sit well.
I've seen him a few times in person at pax and the first minecon and he had the air of someone bemused and slightly uncomfortable with the fuss. The way 0x10c blew up and the recent fuss about the license don't seem to have been good for someone that just wants to sit quietly coding away not to make the best ever game but because he loves games.
