The latest update to the KSP is here 0.22 the science update. Now your missions can do science while exploring the mysteries of space. This is basically the first steps towards a career mode.
You start with limited parts and by doing missions and then sending back reports you gain science points that unlock more parts and more science experiments to do. You also get science points for recovered space craft so there is some incentive to make it back in one piece.
It's pretty fun gives a new twist and some structure to the game would likely make it more approachable for beginners or people for some reason unable to look at youtube videos that explain it. I found starting from scratch hard I didn't have any of my favourite parts I had no SAS or even aerodynamics so my rockets are wildly uncontrollable no rcs and no batteries or solar panels so I run out of power fast.
The first ship in orbit unfortunatly I forgot the antenna so it couldn't transmit any data for science points
MK2 now with antennas
Data away!
Gets me to the next level and now I can experiment with Mysterious goo seen here in small tanks on the side of the craft.
A slight problem of reentry and power issues
Lack of SAS and aerodynamics makes for uncontrollable rockets also no space tape yet. This rocket spun like a top then exploded.
To the MUN!
Ran out of power for the transmitter
Coming in to land
some stability issues the rocket fell over
and then slid down the crater
and came to a stop time for science!

That's some good sciencing! My first attempt was a lot less ambitious - Straight up about 20k, crew report then a slow decent to land and recover. However in a daring attempt to gain double science I EVA'd and attempted a crew report on the ground at which point the game crashed.
I have to admit I'm quite daunted at the prospect of returning to strut-less rockets, I've got used to my non-flexing, non-breaking apart at 30,000 feet rockets.
I've enjoyed it. It's made me much better at the game. I used to use Mechjeb because I didn't have the time to invest hours to try and get to the point where it wasn't just a frustration-fest.
The new tech tree helps to teach you the game gradually allowing you to get better with basic stuff, allowing you to get more out of the better stuff.
My first mission was a straight up and down affair, but it's wasn't long until I'd unlocked enough stuff to get me to land on minmus and do a flyby of the mun as I deorbit back to Kerbin.
I'm going to attempt a mun landing next... it may take a judicious brutalising of the quick-save/load function.
Umm, so this is a thing. KMP Kerbal Multi Player server:

I can't believe you're suggesting we try this this weekend.
You've been building ships capable of carpet bombing too? Or were you thinking something akin to the ship from 'You only live twice' that swallows dinky little ships whole?
I wonder if I beg my missus she'll let me order a laptop on her prime account for next day delivery?
She is absolutely, 100% assured of letting you. I don't even think you need to ask.
I have my work laptop, I shall see if its capable of running Kerbal. It runs Artemis no problem, but I don't know what that counts for...
