So before, they had this hex system. Which was ok but it meant that there weren't any formed battle lines. You could take any hex as long as your side adjoined it. When the servers were busy (2000-3000 players on the map) then natural battle lines formed but for the majority of the time, you would find yourself having to fight all fronts because a small group had 'gone round the back'. One Indar (the map pictured in the link) that was a pain in the arse because ground vehicles have difficulty in the canyons of the south.
This is a big change to the game. A really big change. It was in PS1 and veterans all think it should have been this way from the start. I like that it shows they are willing to make massive changes even after being live for 6 months.
Now they have this lattice system where you can only take an installation if you connect to it through the network of nodes and arcs. In practise (on the test server), this forms natural battle lines and a reduced number of options means that you can focus your forces better.
The thing it's probably missing is a Meta game; an overarching story. It's not stopping my fun anyway, especially since they added the suicide buggy:
Which makes me laugh when people do things like this:
(I got out of the buggy just after he landed it on the top of the building).

Isn't this game SOE? Thant means large changes are nothing they'll scrap the whole game system and replace it with something completely different on a whim. They did that with SWG something like 5 times a week :D
Chances are by next week PS2 will be a colour matching jewel game.
LOL! I won't put it past PS2 to change whatever they like but I have really enjoyed the updates. The TV-guided missile launcher is hilarious, requires a fair amount of skill, has limited range and is poor against infantry, but is hilarious. The Harrasser buggy is super fast and easy to manoeuvre and makes lone tanks vulnerable. It's also great fun to drive.
They do have to keep the content fresh of people will bleed off and they seem to be doing it. Their community involvement is excellent too.
