I love how the article quietly doesn't mention that this sort of technology could completely remove the need to learn multiple languages (in much the same way that computers and calculators have removed the need to learn long division/multiplication)
As a mono-linguist, stuff like this would be fantastic for me...to have an app on my phone able to act as a communication bridge would open up a lot more holiday destinations (though it's always going to be worrying when you find someone using the lesser known bullshit->english translator)
I foresee problems with dialects.

I think it's a superb idea and as processing power increases it will become more useful globally.
