Were stars the old version of Wii points on the older consoles?

They are points you get for buying Nintendo products...there will be come sctrachy cards with Nintendo 1st party games, and hardware...

you could use them for wall papers and ring tones and icons on various Nintendo themed things and occasionally for hardware or games. I got my DS using stars for a cut price and a month before anyone else.
