I like Battlefield games*. I thought BF1942 was a worthy chuckle, obsessed over BFV for years (don't trust my landing, lads), played enough of BF2 to get unlocks, enjoyed some tank blithering about in BF2142 with the chaps, hammered away at the lightweight BFBC2 with its destructable environments long enough to get reasonably good. I gave Battlefield Heroes a go but wanted something a bit deeper.
Play4free sounded like a freemium version of BF2 but as Ars points out, it's actually bollocks. Valve got micropayments right. Buying stuff in TF2 is a shortcut to hats, different weapons but you can earn them if you like and it doesn't massively unbalance the game - it just gives you options.
Now? I'm scared that they're going to fuck up BF3. BF2/BFBC2's modern warfareness wasn't as fun as the historical ones as high tech weaponry isn't as, well, kerchunka, as historical ones.
* Age has lead me to ultimately agree with Pete that there is too much bloody running about in the early ones.

Sounds like there will be two types of player:
1. Idiot gankers, who have wasted their own money (or parents) to unlock the best guns for the sole purpose of annoying people.
2. Rage quitters, who just keep getting ganked by idiots.
