I think the dice would last about 3 seconds. It would be far cooler if you could use a normal dice, and the screen picked up the value it rolled from the underside result.
I could see great stuff for boardgames with this...dungeon-crawlers without the lag! Also, the PC could take over DM duties...
I would think picking up the dice would be possible at least for d6's as dots should be pretty easy to parse
I like the automation of the grunt work of these sorts of thing the whole line of site what area is safe for spawning etc
Admittedly this does just turn the game into baldurs gate more or less :D
