The first part of that video was straight out of "Weird Science"...
I think one thing the customisation tool does is show where they will be making their money. I suspect that your base-level user will get a character with a pair of courduroy trousers and a nice cardigan and slippers.
They haven't annonced yet exaclty how they are going to monetise the game, however I'm guessing that stuff like clothes, cars etc at least will be charged... The big question is if performance/progress enhancing items will be chargable?

I remember the original APB on Amiga with fondness. We'll have to wait and see about the monetising aspect.

Corduroy trousers and a flat cap FTW!
They make a big thing about how the whole game is player skill level driven ie there's no levels as such it's just how good/bad you are at the game anything that would screw with that would undermine the rest of their whole matchmaking level system so I doubt paid for super weapons would be the way they went.

Oh I'm in the closed beta :D
First play session is tonight :D

I've been in the beta a while but only managed to make one play session, which was excellent. I have just been sent two beta invitations for it, does anyone want one?

YES YES YES ME ME ME! Although count me as a reserve because my sporadic gaming ability means I won't make as good as use as others.

I think you should as you found it in the first place.

LOL, fair call. :) Is it a steam game?
Submitted by brainwipe on Thu, 2010-04-22 10:39
Not steam. Has it's own installer and is about an 8gb download so get it installed long before a play session comes up. The play sessions seem to be coming round more frequently and are open for longer so hopefully I'll get more play in.

Does it play a bit like we play Saints Row 2?

I didn't get much further than the tutorial and then on to customisation but yes, that is the gist of it.

I'm also in the beta and also have a key ... I also only played one session so far. They have timed slots which thus far have been inconvenient
So if anyone else wants to play the game once then ignore it let me know :D

Agreed, the slots have been inconveniently timed for me otherwise I would have played a bunch more, very frustrating. I'm hoping when they have finished stress testing they'll open it up to 24h play

Yeah I guess they're going to wait till public beta or something for that level of testing
I know when I played it there were still a lot of serious problems they needed to fix so it may still be fairly early in the dev cycle

There's a 48h session this weekend. Still have a spare key.
Comments
they have some crazy customisation tech in there for making your character
APB is definately going to be one of the top games of next year on x360 and what ever other platforms they release it on.
I wonder if it's going to have unified servers or if the various platforms will be separate
That does look pretty cool plus it claims no subscription fees which is what puts me off most mmo's.
heres a video of the customisation stuff in action
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icR3LtEMvZI
it looks ludicrously detailed
That's impressive (and not only because it starts out with boobs.)
But will it be as good as the original?
