...and as of now it is just rumours.
It would be very much against Games Workshop's current model, and several issues have been raised;
1) Cost - to price the minatures for the original set would be over £100 in todays money (even with plastics)
2) Genestealers have been changed out of sight in the 40K universe, and are now just lackeys to the Tyranids
That said, even now the game has a huge following, and a great reputation, and would almost certainly vanish from shelves as fast as they can print it. It's also a great gateway game into the expensive world of GW wargaming, so you'd think it would be good for them...

To give you an idea of the insane costs of GW stuff right now...
5 plastic Terminators for £25 and 8 genestealers for £15
The original game had 2 squads of 5 Terminators, and 20 Genestealers. I make that £95 in todays money...
I personally think they would be better off farming the license off to FFG (in the same way as they did with their RPG stuff), as they are in a better position to remake it and distribute it, while keeping the costs in the realms of sanity. You could expect the models to be slightly less detailed (FFG use a softer plastic for their mini's, and corespondingly lower detail models), however this would probably let them get the game out for under £60'ish quid, while I cannot see GW doing it for under £100, or people with 40K armies are going to buy it for cheap minatures alone...
That said, their Starter 40K set contains 5 terminators, and a dreadnought (which sells for £25 alone), as well as other stuff for the relatively sane price of £39...
Holy crapnuts! When did GW get so madly expensive!?!?!?!
About 1842...
The shocker here is that these days they are charging through the nose for plastic minis, whereas previously at least you were paying for lead and white metal...
