nVidia have just released a "new" card, the GeForce 250.
Most people would expect this to be a slower/slightly cut down version of their current line (260, 280, 285, 295) but beware. Its not. It is simply a 9800GTX+ with a new name pasted to the side.
If you think back, the 9800 series were actually rebadgings of the 8800 series. In the case of the GTX+ the chips are produced on a smaller process (55nm) which lets them clock a little higher, run a little cooler but more importantly makes them cheaper to produce.
So what you have here is something which is effectively a slightly faster version of the 8800GTs I have with more pipes enabled, and running a little cooler... not something one (or two) generations newer as you might expect. That said the 2xx line proper are basically two 8800 cores glued together with some tweaks, so maybe its not as bad as it sounds.
There's something of an uproar about this particularly because some reviewers were apparently cut out of the loop for this release.
