A temporary gimp. I think gimphood is really about not wanting it or thinking it's important. UT3 is perhaps the most important game this year. Except, perhaps, Crysis, which has done a good job at showing me how soon my computer will need upgrading.

to hardware that doesn't yet exist ;)

About that - I had another shot at getting to working well last night, and somehow (I honestly don't know what I did) managed to get it running more or less acceptably at "high" in 1280 4xAA. It looked stunning, and was perfectly playable (if not quite as slick as UT3.) And it didn't crash or anything either. I really enjoyed it, too. I _might_ pull a u-turn on this one and get it at launch. Even though nothing in it could quite match the feeling of unbridled glee I got the first time I climbed into the tripod in UT3. :D

Bah go and ruin my fun why don't you :P
to quote "I reject your reality and substitute my own" ;)
Maybe the sli was not correctly enabled or some such? That could make a fairly big difference to performance.
I had heard even worse things about crysis since then such one of the hardware sites saying that it was impossible to build a rig to run it acceptably at the current time but maybe it's a case of having to find that one set of magic settings to make it work.
Still if dual 8800's are needed that still pretty hardcore, and then I'd expect more than 1280 out of that

Gameplay sale (down to £17.99!) + spending less than I thought at christmas = acquisition. :D
... and it seems Play has GH3 at £17.99 too. Why not.
